Several weeks ago, I visited Japan’s Kansai region for vacation.  Kansai is home to the urban centers Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, and more.  The area is mostly known for its traditional culture and laid back atmosphere when compared to the megalopolis Tokyo.  But how does it compare to Taipei?  There are some interesting similarities and surprising differences.  Check out my  knee jerk analysis after the jump.

Typhoons are a staple of Taiwanese summers, coming every now and then to give people a break from this pesky blue sky.  Taipei’s lucky geographical location means that typhoons just bring in a lot of wind and rain, but not enough to have people scurrying to 7-11 to buy ramen that will last a week.  Tomorrow is a typhoon holiday for Taipei, so what is there to do?  Here are five suggestions to get the most out of your typhoon days.
