Close to hot spring attractions of Xinbeitou lies the Junjianyan Hiking Trail 軍艦岩親山步道.  The often-visited Battleship Rock is actually part of the trail, which has many alternate routes for the adventurous.  I decided to walk the main path, which treats hikers with diverse sights.  I’ve been up here twice and neither time was crowded at all, so hikers who want to avoid people may enjoy this trail.  Check out some pictures from my walk.

There are two main entrances to this trail: close to Beitou Station or close to Shipai.  The Shipai entrance is close to Battleship Rock, and I presume most people skip the route completely and just opt to go to the rock and then come back.  I entered from the Beitou section, which is tucked into an inconspicuous road outside of the main tourist area.  It’s a bit hard to explain how to get there since, actually, I found it by accident!  The Shipai entrance is easier to find, so I highly recommend checking out Battleship Rock, then taking the trail to Beitou.  The trail is filled with many smaller paths, but the main path offers a lot of interesting things to see, including a temple.  The main path takes a bit over an hour and the climb is gradual.  It’s definitely an easy hike for those who want something simple yet fun.  Here are some pictures from my hike.

Location

The Beitou entrance is on Qiyan Road near Beitou Station.  The more accessible entrance is near Shipai Station.  Follow the signs to National Yangming University.  Once inside the university, follow the signs that say “Hiking Trail” and Mt. Junjianyan.  The main path will take you close to Beitou Station at its exit.
